Sharon Heaton, Founder & CEO, sbLiftOff
Sharon B. Heaton, named one of the “50 Most Influential Women in M&A” by BDO and among the “Top 25 Women in M&A” by Opus Connect, is the CEO and Founder of sbLiftOff, a female-led M&A advisory firm serving businesses throughout the US. Ms. Heaton believes lower middle market business owners are “the heroes of capitalism who make our economy go.” sbLiftOff helps these owners either sell their companies or buy additional ones. Her national firm serves commercial and government contracting companies with $25M to $150M in revenues and in excess of $2M in EBITDA.

An avidly sought after speaker at industry conferences, Ms. Heaton publishes in Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Washington Business Journal and other outlets. She has been associated with the global law firms of Skadden Arps and Latham & Watkins and has served as Senior Counsel on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, General Counsel and Deputy Staff Director of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. She co-founded Wellford Energy Group, an investment bank serving clean energy and low carbon companies. Previously, she was Deputy Counsel of a Fortune 500 company operating in ten states.

Heaton holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Chicago Law School and a B.A. from Barnard College.

Alexander Mears
Alex is the co-founder and managing partner of The Brydon Group, a private equity firm focused on investing via entrepreneurship through acquisition. Alex previously spent two decades in large cap private equity focused on software, business and government services. Alex started his career at McKinsey and Blackstone, but took a hiatus from his private equity career in 2008 to serve in combat in Afghanistan and Iraq as an officer with the U.S. Navy and as a Foreign Service Officer.
 
Alex was most recently a Principal at The Carlyle Group where he focused on government services and software and where he sat on the boards of multiple portfolio companies, including Two Six Technologies (software), CNSI (software) and Paradigm Precision (aerospace). Alex serves on the Board of Trustees of Project Healing Waters and is the co-founder of Search & Acquire, a non-profit dedicated to supporting veterans acquiring small businesses.
 
Alex received an M. Sc. from the University of Oxford and a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University. He is a CFA Charterholder and maintains a Top Secret – SCI clearance.
